An Arranged Marriage with My Unrequited Love
짝사랑과 정략결혼 했더니 / Married My Crush in an Arranged Marriage
Synopsis
By imperial decree, Irene unexpectedly ends up marrying Felix, the man she had always admired from afar.
Although it was merely a political marriage, Felix treated her with great respect, and Irene was incredibly satisfied with their union. She was certain that she would continue to be happy in the future.
"Are you aware that the Duke is having an affair, Duchess?"
At least, she was... until a paparazzi appeared and showed her secretly taken photographs of Felix with another woman.
Writers, we need to have a conversation about how you choose to portray the misunderstanding trope, how you choose to portray relationships, how you choose to express trauma, etc. The most common trope “misunderstanding” is played out. Once in a blue moon, the misunderstanding can be pretty cute. Usually though it’s used to make boring conflict. The year is 2026, couples have access to the internet and know more than ever before. They know communication is the key to a happy relationship. Now let’s talk about relationships. You have a bad habit of portraying absolutely abusive relationships as romantic. Men who tell their supposed loved ones that the reason they treated them horribly is out of love. You do know that’s a common excuse abusers use, right? Blaming outside forces when they ignore loved ones and mistreat loved ones, and ignore when even the servants mistreat them. Then when something catastrophic happens: their abuse is explained away as “they loved them so much that they had to protect them from those who would hurt them by.. abusing them.” That needs to stop. The final trope that’s over used: extensive trauma. When the victim can’t hear the person’s name who hurt them the most, it’s messed up that you then will put them together. And by extensive trauma, I will say: if in the previous life, the person they were with takes their child to give to their affair partner before tossing them out or killing them for something they did NOT do, I do not care if time rewound and they are living their lives over again, that is NOT how trauma works! It doesn’t suddenly disappear because they returned to an arbitrary year or whatever. They remember what happened. It is a scar on their mental health! Stop using trauma for “drama”. In another story, the FL had such deep trauma, she spent 5 years in a magical induced coma. When she awoke her parents despised her and sent her away. Because the time rewound trope was used. She was KILLED by someone she really loved. On top of that, when she finds out that he wants to marry her in this life as well… she has a mental breakdown… and the person was made into the ML. Again, time rewinding does not erase emotional scars. Now in this story… miscommunication, anger, jealousy, and what looks like coercion. She said herself “she couldn’t turn him away.” So… he assaulted her, you do realize that, right? It doesn’t matter if he was drunk… even despite that… he was stronger than her and forced himself on her. Out of your minds! And it’s obvious that woman, that “reporter”, and her childhood friend is all working together to break them apart. Something is wrong with you if you think all of that is okay. That is an AWFUL thing to portray as it’s obvious the husband is the ML. Please stop writing these types of romances.
