Goodbye, Unfaithful Fiancé: I’ll Find Happiness in the Next Game!
さよなら浮気な婚約者様、次のゲームで幸せになります
Synopsis
"I have someone else I love." Lucien, his heart stolen by a Saintess who had been transported from another world, coldly delivered these words to his fiancée, Carolina.
However, at that very moment, Carolina realized that she had been reincarnated as the villainess from an otome game she had played in her previous life. In that case, this world must surely have a "sequel," right!?
Setting her sights on the game's "continuation," Carolina smiled brightly and declared: "Very well, let's call off the engagement!" In the sequel, a Hero is transported to this world and falls in love with the villainesses, the very women, like Carolina, who had their fiancés stolen in the first game.
Having decisively given up on Lucien, Carolina eagerly awaits the start of the sequel, convinced that this time, she is finally destined for happiness. Meanwhile, Lucien finds himself unable to hide his bewilderment as the game's mysterious influence over him gradually begins to fade.
"To think I’m suddenly more interested in Carolina than the Saintess... now of all times!"
A bittersweet, frustrating romance of crossed paths, featuring a fiancé tormented by regret and a former villainess who remains relentlessly optimistic!

This is a romance comedy, but I think what makes it work is the understated horror element that underpins the setup. Neither Lucian nor Carolina have been acting of their own free will for the past two years. The twist of both characters reclaiming their autonomy while navigating the broken trust and other consequences from the game events is a fun twist that keeps Carolina engaging while keeping Lucian just sympathetic enough to make me want to see him earn his redemption.
I started on a whim. I am glad I did. Found the story rich and entertaining. I do hope you read it as much as I enjoyed it.
